A match made in family heaven

Small family seeks loyal chalet for fun-filled mountain adventures with plenty of snow, good food and home comforts with a generous dose of luxury. Gorgeous Alpine views and log fires would be advantageous. Poky apartments and bunk beds need not apply. Serious candidates will be considered, but only if the price is right. Looking for all the world a traditional chalet the glistening sharpness of the walls and the virtually wrap around balconies bely the truth; Chalet Austria is recently built, promising inside all the mod cons of a contemporary property, and yet outwardly exuding Tyrolean style. In a prime position just a couple of minute’s stroll from the Nasserein nursery slopes and the lifts this is solid, family ski holiday territory and just what you’d been looking for. It’s going to be a great week.

Chalet Alexandra extends across an entire floor, with a large, open plan living space accommodating the dinging table and carved, traditional Tyrolean chairs. The ceiling is beautifully wood paneled and the floor is solid wood of the same bright hue. The kitchen blends seamlessly from the same wood, complimented by solid stone work tops. Here you spy the chef at work creating this evening’s delicious family dinner.

On the dining table sits a decadent chocolate cake – here’s one he made earlier - and you are handed a slice with a glass of champagne by your attentive chalet host. As you sit back in the quirky, Austrian apple-green sofa you feel your whole body sink into relaxation. Cosy, homely and unmistakably Austrian chalet Alexandra ticks all the boxes so far.

When you eventually make it to your bedrooms the good news continues; they are large, light and the perfect blend of modern facilities and traditional Alpine chic. With everything on the one floor you can really relax knowing the kids are never far away, and there are no hazardous stairs to worry about. Time for a relaxing soak in the bathtub; each of the en-suites offers contemporary fittings and attractive honey-coloured tiling.

While you’re soaking the kids are kept quiet enjoying a DVD while chef provides the snacks; freshly popped corn. Don’t let them spoil their appetite though, there’s a delicious family meal planned, incorporating all of the children’s favourites. Holiday time together is so special, and you especially enjoy sitting and eating together as a family without having to slave over the oven yourself, and even better; no washing up afterwards.

You do like the thought of a few more ‘grown up’ evenings though. No problem; the chef will happily prepare an earlier supper for the kids and then treat you to a romantic dinner a deux, starting with canapés by the fire and finishing with a nightcap and home made chocolates. They even offer to book a babysitter so you can finish the evening at a bar in town for dancing and cocktails, a tempting thought.

Skiing from Alexandra couldn’t be easier; your boots are warmed and ready for you in the chalet ski room, and you are whisked to the lifts in under a minute by the chalet chauffeur. Better still, you are given a complimentary ski instructor for two days who expertly guides you around the best of the skiing in the Arlberg region, and helps you improve your skiing style at the same time too.  

A vacation at Chalet Alexandra is a break for the whole family; you are granted quality family time together on the slopes while your instructor takes care of the route and the restaurant for lunch. Back at the chalet the kids can play in the grounds, out-doing each other with the best snowman, and you can relax with a book in front of the fire, or take a steam in the hamam. Everything is taken care of, leaving you free to enjoy a well-earned break.
