Chalet Kashmir will wrap up a ski holiday in high-quality paper and tie a bow on top. That wrapping has sophistication and the bow is subtle – it does not try to cram everything into one package. Which can be a good thing. For many of us, all the service and all the glitz just isn’t our ambition for a precious ski holiday. Space – tick. A bit of the gorgeous – yes please. Chalet Kashmir offers an attractive flexibility in how you organise your stay. Perhaps add on a continental breakfast to make departure for the slopes a little more relaxed. Maybe a private chef one night, maybe a driver service to the lifts. It’s up to you.
Chalet Kashmir is in the heart of the sunny Méribel valley with its access to the majesty of skiing the Trois Vallées. It occupies a lovely position where you can soak up the deep peace of the mountains and enjoy glorious views across the forests and up to the peaks. From that last statement you can probably tell that it is not in a busy part of the resort. It is in La Gittaz, a hamlet just below Méribel village that is slowly being developed with a few rather beautiful chalets. Here, a discerning clientele enjoys more space and less noise. Even in the most exclusive of resorts we have all experienced the volume of après ski exuberance turning boisterous and even rowdy. La Gittaz is different and yet it is only five minutes’ drive (there is garage parking for two cars at Chalet Kashmir) to the ski slopes, the lifts and all the joie de vivre of Méribel Village.
Its 400sqm provide spacious accommodation for twelve guests in six double bedrooms, all of which can convert to twins. They are inviting spaces where the luscious use of faux fur in soft whites and greys gives that luxuriant feel of being hugged in a magic sledge as it flies through the cold night sky. Each has its private bathroom and only one of the bathrooms is not equipped with a bath tub as well as a shower. Five are on the first floor and the sixth is at the top of the chalet with a seating area and panoramic views from the balcony.
And you can have your own party, in your own style, at Chalet Kashmir. Its design approach is smart but not pretentious to create an ambiance that is elegant and yet relaxing. Mellowed timber throughout is warming and appropriately alpine. The layout encourages sociability at the same time as providing lots of options for people to spread out. Open plan living, dining and cooking is on the 2nd floor although the space flows around creating two lounge areas, one with the TV and the other with a wood-burning fireplace. An outdoor hot tub on the terrace is an added treat. Down on the 1st floor there is a large sauna with space for relaxing, a treatment room and a TV lounge/games room. The acclimatised wine store might suggest the plan to stock up for the week – a ski chalet does not have to be parcelled up with all the layers to do things in style.
