Chalet Constantia is brand new and yet the exterior is traditional, with that beguiling use of timber and stone that enables a recently built chalet fit into its alpine environment rather than announcing its presence. Chalet Constantia is also vast, with accommodation for up to sixteen guests in spacious rooms and luxury. Yet its ambiance has charm and tranquillity, with warm wood and a gently neutral colour palette.
Chalet Constantia is only 200m from the St Martin ski lifts that whisk you up into the Trois Vallées ski area and yet a chauffeur service is on hand from 8am and 11pm to ensure you arrive at the lift station entirely unruffled. Need we say more!
Well yes, of course we have plenty more.
An approach to interior design that effortlessly combines contemporary lines with beautifully crafted textiles and soft furnishings. The wondrous dreamy space of the open-plan living area on the top floor with its panoramic views, its magnificent central wood burning fire, sophisticated lighting and inviting bar with its intriguing artisan gin collection. The kitchen fits elegantly into the space that flows between relaxed and formal seating areas and then has room for a palatial dining table. From this kitchen your private chef will prepare a feast for five evenings of the week that is based on the best local of ingredients in synergy with your personal preferences.
On the lower floors, the divinely comfortable ensuite bedrooms, six of them, all with super king beds including a dual aspect master suite with its private balconies. Fun and games on the ground floor, with the large playroom complete with table football where four full-size bunk beds turn the room into a dorm. And then the cinema room for closing doors on the outside world. Or how about the terrace with its outdoor hot tub and sauna. What a glorious end to the ski day, breathing tingling cold air while immersed in hot bubbles and looking up at the diamond stars in the night sky.
St Martin is one of those need-to-know resorts you might mention in whispers. Careful preservation has retained the authenticity of a picturesque Savoyarde village, with its ancient church and market square. Characterful bars, restaurants and shops cluster in traditional houses. And yet a modern eight-person gondola is there to carry discerning skiers up into the heart of the Trois Vallées. The Belleville valley is also rich in opportunities to pursue activities other than skiing. Marked paths allow hikers and snowshoe aficionados to explore a winter wonderland natural environment or try dog sleigh riding along the river.
Chalet Constantia is a newly polished jewel in the rich collection cherished in this lovely alpine village. If St Martin de Belleville was not yet on your list, the enthusiastic and talented staff at this impressive chalet will soon ensure its place at the top.
