Apartment Bellavista is sophisticated and contemporary and part of the Kempinski Residences in St Moritz Bad. The Residences are connected to the prestigious Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski and are designed and finished to match the dignity of this palatial hotel that opened in 1864. It was one of the first grand hotels of an era when European aristocracy started to flock from smoggy cities to the Alps to experience the beauty of the mountains and their crystal-clear health-giving air. The ambiance lives on in the town’s old streets, its fine restaurants and its hallowed traditions. Maybe one day you will ride the Cresta! Or maybe you’re already a veteran of the most famous toboggan run in the world.
Bellavista is a spacious duplex spread over the fifth and sixth floors of the Kempinski Residences. It nestles under the eaves, although these are no rustic rafters but sleekly sloping rooves, adding interest to the airy spaces. The finish is all light wood, clean lines and classical furnishings, creating a style that is stately and suave. It is glamour without the glitz, very St Moritz. An impressive reception hall leads to the main living room which is open plan and yet separated into seating areas, one with sofas gathered by the television and the other more formal, and then a smart dining area with its glass table and seating for up to ten guests. The kitchen is discreetly separated by a breakfast bar.
All three bedrooms are very generously proportioned. A vast dressing room connects the master with its bountiful bathroom where you find a full bathtub, double basins and a separate rain-shower. Even the guest bedrooms, one adjacent to the master and the other on the characterful upper floor, are luxuriously supplied full bathrooms and dressing rooms with closets whose capacity invites you stay the whole winter. As, indeed, you might be tempted to do.
The Residences enjoy a private lounge, a very civilised space for refined socialising, and there is access to the facilities of the historic hotel, with its lavish spa and pool and exquisite dining – one of the three restaurants has been awarded two Michelin stars. St Moritz knows glamour, it knows style, and it is home to an inspiring collection of events and activities. But it also knows about some excellent skiing, with over 350km of pistes and an excellent snow record. Next to the Kempinski, the Signal Bahn ski lift gives access to the Corviglia area and the last run down from the Corvatsch area makes the Residences ski-in from this side too.
Visitors to St Moritz will have a clear idea of where they are going – one of the most exclusive resorts in the Alps that has a rarefied culture and a lifestyle unto itself. If you too are bewitched by its charm, the Kempinski Residence is somewhere you might just plan to stay a little longer.
