Top 6 Tips For Self-catering options

You can get the best ingredients when you self cater

Not so long ago going on a self-catered ski holiday was the budget option that demanded a strong constitution. The apartments were small, cramped and rather dismal. But recently we have seen the emergence of a new breed of luxury self-catered properties that are re-writing the rules on where to spend your favourite weeks of the year.

One: Why go self-catered?

Increasingly we hear from dedicated catered chalet regulars that they’d like lighter menus and less food – it is true that all of our chalets thoroughly spoil you with a constant flow of delicious dishes. Many people also want to have a great lunch on the mountains so to have the flexibility of having a lighter option in the evening is very appealing. Also a self-catering property gives the ultimate flexibility in terms of timings – life is lived at your pace.

Two: No Compromise

Banish thoughts of basic apartments - we have some amazing self-catering properties with a dazzling array of facilities from hot tubs and spas to ski-in locations. Whether you prefer contemporary style or more traditional chocolate box décor, we will have something to suit you. Stylish and spacious there are apartments to suit a family or larger options that are perfect for a group.

Three: Self-Catering Plus

Many of the properties in our portfolio have additional services included – so beds are made up for you, the bathroom has a supply of luxury toiletries, housekeeping and linen changes are included and many also offer a breakfast delivery service. Pre-arrival shopping can be arranged to ensure that the fridge and the drinks cabinet (!) are stocked for your arrival. There’s definitely no slumming it on this holiday.

Four: Private chefs

In most resorts we can arrange a private chef to come and cater for you – that way you can choose to dine in some nights but still make sure that everyone gets a break from kitchen duties. They will design a menu to suit you and the occasion and you simply pay for the nights and ingredients you want.

Five: Delis & takeaways

Going self-catering doesn’t have to mean slaving away in the kitchen – there are great delis selling everything from delicious pates, cured hams, local chesses, home-made quiches and tarts and ready prepared dishes so you can have a wonderful meal with minimum effort.

Six: Restaurant options

There are fantastic restaurants both on and off the mountain in all the resorts in our portfolio. Whether you’re looking for fine dining or wonderful hearty local specialities such as fondues and rosti there are options from 3 star Michelin restaurants to alpine huts. Enjoy a wonderful blowout lunch and then just snack and graze at your leisure in the evening. Likewise you have the flexibility to sample the wonderful restaurants in the resort – you don’t need to restrict yourself to picking one on the chef’s night off.

So maybe this year, its time to look again at self-catering – the rules have been re-written and it is most definitely now a luxury option.
