Top Eight Reasons Spring Skiing Is Best

Just because the days are getting longer and the temperatures are rising, it doesn’t mean that the season is over. Far from it. With blue skies and several weeks to still take advantage of your favourite sport, what is there to not love about spring skiing? The following top tips will give you an insight into why these are the days that should be more highly rated.

One:Happy children equals happy parents

You want to start their love for skiing young but all it takes are a few sub zero days of frozen fingers and toes and the plan has been sabotaged. Take advantage of the warmer days and softer snow for encouraging their enthusiasm. We’re afraid that this does mean you’ll be building snowmen and having snowball fights long into the afternoon though. However, this is a small sacrifice to pay for ensuring you share years of favourite weeks together.

Two: Shed the layers

Nothing is more liberating than shedding those winter layers. Pack the down jacket and heavily insulated ski trousers away and look forward to bringing out your favourite skiing tee. Just don’t forget the suncream please as those Alpine rays can pack quite a punch. It’s also the time of year for swapping your goggles for sunglasses. However, we recommend keeping the goggles and a lightweight jumper in your backpack, just incase the notoriously fickle Alpine weather has its way.

Three: Supper by starlight

Why do all dinners have to involve a dining room? Let your Michelin standard chef surprise you with the most luxurious al fresco dining experience you could ever imagine. Friends won’t believe that you dined by starlight whilst skiing in the Alps. With the Green Egg fired up, canapés served to you snuggled amongst faux fur throws and champagne freely flowing whilst a band serenades you on your private terrace. What more could you ask for from an evening?

Four: This round’s on us

Nothing beats a fantastic morning on the slopes than knowing it is to be followed by an indulgent late lunch on a sun drenched deck. As the spring sunshine beats down, loosen your ski boots and settle in for the afternoon. We’ll be delighted to recommend our favourite mountainside restaurants to you. Gloves and gripping onto a vin chaud for dear life can finally be cast aside. The time of year is finally here when the satisfying chink of ice cubes resonates from that large glass of white. Prost!

Five: Those magical hours

With the arrival of spring, you can look forward to longer days and all that that means for your favourite week. To guarantee the best skiing conditions, head straight out after breakfast. We all know what they say about the early bird who catches the worm and this is never truer than on a legendary spring bluebird day. Combine that with a glacier resort such as Val D’Isere, Tignes or Zermatt and you are in for a treat. With hours of daylight still remaining, either head to après early or swap your skis for an alternative way to enjoy the slopes. How about ice-skating or tobogganing with the children or snowmobiling and paragliding for the adrenalin junkies?

Six: Cheaper skiing

February Half Term is synonymous with that favourite week in the Alps. No winter or spring term is complete without your annual ski trip. As one of the most notoriously expensive weeks of the whole season, we would be delighted to talk spring skiing with you instead. Later in the season, yes but does that mean compromising on luxury? Absolutely not. Along with securing your perfect luxury catered ski chalet at a considerably lower rate, you can also take advantage of more readily available and often cheaper transfers and flights. We look forward to welcoming you next Easter.

Seven: Awe inspiring scenery

I know that we are a little biased but the Alps provide one of the most jaw-dropping landscapes on this planet. Don’t get us wrong, we have a secret love hate relationship with white out days as we know just what we can look forward to the following day. However, nothing is more invigorating than when spring arrives and we can enjoy unobstructed views of our favourite peaks. As flora and fauna remerge after another long winter, the Alps really do astonish in spring.

Eight: Avoiding the crowds

You have waited fifty-one long snow-deprived weeks for your favourite of them all to arrive. Nothing is more agonizing than clicking into your skis and seeing the chair lift as a distant blur on the horizon over a sea of helmets and goggles. No one likes queuing when it comes to skiing. Join us next spring and say goodbye to the crowds and hello to more time spent enjoying your favourite pistes.
