One: Foodie Heaven
There are great resorts if lunch, dinner and gastronomy generally are important factors for you. Zermatt’s mountain restaurants are legendary and its best to get your SkiBoutique PA to book these for you so that your table at Chez Vrony, ZumSee or at Franz & Heidi’s is guaranteed! Courchevel has more Michelin starred restaurants than anywhere in France outside of Paris – not bad for a small village. The selection includes Le 1947, which, this year, received its 3rd star. Our insider tip for foodie skiers is to check out St Martin de Belleville, the smallest of the resorts in the 3 Valleys. There are great chalets, noted for their delicious food, some great mountain restaurants serving local dishes and the famous 3*La Bouitte.
Two: Challenging Skiing
If your ideal ski holiday is all about challenging skiing and pushing yourself to ever greater achievements then any of our resorts plus a fantastic hand-picked ski guide will ensure that you finish the week exhausted but happy! But in my opinion all skiers need to ski the following resorts at least once: St Anton, Verbier, Chamonix, Tignes, Ste Foy for the off-piste and any of the resorts in the 3 Valleys.
Three: Families
Picking the right resort for a family ski trip, particularly the first time is important but the good news is, that with careful planning, almost any of the resorts we offer can work for you. If you’re travelling with young children who aren’t skiing yet than we can help you plan childcare and choose the right chalet. If you have children of skiing age, then the key factors are access to the slopes, the chalet minibus service and the right ski school or instructor.
Four: Night Owls
If your ideal holiday involves a good day on the slopes followed by "tripping the light fantastic" until the dawn, then resorts such as Val d’Isère, St Anton & Verbier will definitely keep you entertained from après ski in famous establishments such as the Mooserwirt and the Krazy Kanguruh in St Anton or the Folie Douce & Cocorico in Val d’Isère followed by clubs that are open til’ the early hours such as The Farm and Le Rouge in Verbier.
Five: Mixed Ability Group
Picking the right resort for a group of different levels of skiers or non-skiers can be a challenge but there are lots of options – any of the 3 Valley resorts are perfect as there is a good choice of skiing to sort every level, lots of restaurants that can be easily accessed and Courchevel in particularly has plenty of retail therapy options for non-skiers. Another good resort for all level of skiers and for any non-skiers is Morzine – part of the Portes du Soleil area or if you’re looking for dramatic scenery and wonderful views, you can’t beat Zermatt.
Six: Non skiers
If you have some non-skiers in your party there are definitely some resorts with more to offer them than others. Zermatt has a lovely town to explore with a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants as well as an interesting museum. There are also a number of mountain restaurants that can be accessed on foot or by lift allowing the whole group to meet up and enjoy lunch and the wonderful views. In the same vein, Chamonix, Morzine and St Anton are working towns with lots of options for non-skiers from retail to spa therapy as well as interesting museums, great winter walking and delicious restaurants.
Just let us know everything you want from your ski trip and we will help you pick the best resort, find the perfect chalet and plan a wonderful stress-free holiday.
