Chalet Acelia deserves the accolade totally lush. It’s something about the confident colour palette of calming greys and whites, warmed by alpine chalet pine. It’s how it embraces a sophisticated beauty in its clean lines, a beauty that extends to elegant fixtures and fittings and even the construction of bunkbeds. It is satisfyingly luxurious and yet totally cool and relaxed about it.
Chalet Acelia is a freestanding chalet with 285m2 accommodating eight guests and two children in style. It is located in the heart of Courchevel Village, formerly known as 1550, where a village ambiance is well reflected by being called as such. A little away from the bright lights and crowds of Méribel 1850, the village is blessed with traditional restaurants and bars as well as easy access to the rest of the Trois Vallées. The Grangettes lift station is a very short walk from the chalet, and from there a gondola transports you up to the big sister resort in five minutes.
The exterior of Chalet Acelia hints at its cool interior without making a statement about it. The sense of luxury, however, begins on the lowest floor with an entrance hall that already communicates its subtle elegance. There is the obligatory boot room, with its heaters and storage for all the kit, but there is another treat down the corridor. A spa area, all soft warm and inviting, a place to unwind between bouts in the bubbles of the Jacuzzi. There is a well-equipped fitness room here too.
The living space on the first floor is conventionally modern chalet open plan. Expansive windows show off the mountain landscape beyond the village. It is contemporary and it is cosy, with a smart central fireplace so that the log fire is shared by dining and relaxing ends of the large space. Also available to both is a massive TV screen, there is one on each side of that central divider (also, impressively, a thing of beauty). Movie watching from the sofas or from the dining table. But maybe you won’t need to turn on the screen. All these gentle greys, the hue of light granite, extend into the smart kitchen so it is absorbed into the main room. It is a place for socialising as dinner is prepared and beyond, into the evening.
The master bedroom has the chalet’s top floor to itself. It delights in spectacular views, has the balcony from which to enjoy them, and a bathroom with a free-standing bath tub and a walk-in shower. The other four bedrooms delight in soft colours and softer fabrics and all have en-suite shower rooms and access to outside. One of them has that rather beautiful bunkbed.
When you book Chalet Acelia you will be able to make choices about consumption. Do you want daily housekeeping or just mid-week? Toiletries, robes, slippers? Or not? The chalet belongs to a small brand that is seeking to address at least some of the damage that our winter holidays can have on our planet. Their whole business-model is being adapted to adopt more sustainable practice. These small measures are to make some contribution to change. Perhaps most importantly, they act to raise awareness of the changes that we can all make, the beginning of solutions.
