Grown-Up Glamour

From the outside, Chalet Kantaa is a very contemporary chocolate box in an appropriately picturesque position in meadows at the forest’s edge. Inside it is massive. There are 520 square metres of playful luxury with space and fun for up to 8 adults and 6 children (with additional accommodation for two staff). Those 6 children can share a large room where sturdy bunkbeds of solid wood create an alpine dormitory – it sounds like the stuff of many childhood dreams that inspires in us grown-ups a wisp of lingering regret.

But not to worry, the current grown-ups will be having a blast at Chalet Kantaa. Perhaps they are gathering together in the vast living space on the top floor. Is the dramatic wall of glass with the spectacular view or the stunning central fireplace the most eye-catching feature? Tough call. Together, they create an ambiance that is exuberant but also somewhere to settle in and get comfortable. The open-plan kitchen is super-stylish and the dining table welcoming for a large party. And Chalet Kantaa has a wealth of other social spaces – the games room with billiard table that connects with a sophisticated bar area, the state-of-the-art cinema room, the spa and the gym (if that is a social activity). All are fabulously styled, the spa area with a large jacuzzi, Hammam and then a treatment room.

Those adults are also superbly accommodated. Two of the bedrooms could lay claim to being a lavish master, a bonus if two families are sharing the holiday. One is on the 1st floor and opens to a large private balcony. The other on the ground floor has a private terrace. The other two doubles (all are en-suites) are on the first floor and that den (a den with a bathroom) for the younger generation on the lower ground. Which puts them a long way from the grown-ups (sometimes a gold star moment) but there is another bedroom on this floor with two beds and its own bathroom. Very attractive staff accommodation. Just saying…

All four floors of this deceptively extensive luxury mountain retreat are connected by an internal elevator. They include a huge garage with parking for up to six cars and laundry facilities for guest use. And, when you clip into those ski boots or strap up your boarding boots, there is the joy of getting almost straight onto the slopes. Just 100m from the doors you join a green piste that leads directly into the village.

Chalat Kantaa can be taken on a self-catered basis or a private chef is on the extensive list of extra services that can be added to your holiday. Choose from the menu, follow your own whims, a bit like the chalet itself that has no qualms about throwing in a bit of personality. Graffiti artwork in the gym, bright colours against the sleek style of the living room. Glamour meets frivolity, welcome to the party.
