On the long and sometimes tiring (always exciting) journey to find your dream ski holiday, you have explored every twist and turn in the path. From hotel to apartment and lodge, following every lead with grit and determination you finally reach your personal summit at Chalet Kilimanjaro. And the view is pretty special.
Sitting piste side in Val D’Isère Chalet Kilimanjaro stands out above all others as the epitome of the perfect luxury Alpine ski chalet. She is striking, angular; dramatic lighting illuminates her pitched rooves and she twinkles at you from afar as you make your final ascent along the snow covered mountain road.
Having made this journey, nay pilgrimage, you feel worthy of a celebratory drink; a glass of champagne to toast the start of an experience you will surely treasure for a lifetime. Meanwhile your Sherpa, I mean, chalet host, takes care of the luggage secreting it in your rooms as you sit back by the roaring log fire and soak up the jaw dropping views from the top.
The interiors are open plan with a feeling of great space created by the double height vaulted ceilings and vast picture windows. Yet the ambiance is cosy and intimate courtesy of huge sofas to sink into, with lavish fur throws and piles of cushions. The fireplace too exudes homely warmth; unusually positioned in the corner of the room it draws your eye, framed by the colossal windows either side ensuring that not a spec of that special view is wasted.
The bedrooms too are intimate, and none more special than the master, Olympus. As you might expect this sits on the top floor, spacious and reached by its own private staircase this bedroom under the eaves has clever windows cut into the gable flooding the space with light, acting as your own private peephole out onto each day’s snow conditions from the luxury of your king-size bed. The en-suite also boasts a bath with a view courtesy of those modern glass gables, which sit in wonderful juxtaposition to the 200-year-old reclaimed wooden beams.
The chalet both exterior and interior is more than matched in style and sophistication by the wonderful team of staff, there to wait on you and make this your own, totally bespoke experience. From a welcome cup of tea brought to you in bed each morning, to champagne served in the hot tub and with canapés before the fire. You need not lift a finger now you’ve arrived; your efficient chalet manager will ensure your ski equipment is prepared each morning, boots warmed, ski guide primed to meet you at the chalet, and lunch booked at the best mountain restaurants.
From your privileged position up at Chalet Kilimanjaro you are just meters from the slopes, no time wasted to reach them and no more lengthy hikes in those ski boots. In any case should you perhaps wish to start from La Daille and ski Tignes for the day your chauffeur is on hand to take you where you wish across the resort, in style and comfort. Handy too if you plan on a little retail therapy after skiing one day.
Dinner each night is a real treat thanks to the talents of your own gourmet chef who will create menus especially for you, to your own preferred style and taste. Later in the evening, should you feel a spring in your step, re-energised from your time in the hot tub perhaps, and that rejuvenating sports massage, VIP tables at the most glamorous bars in Val D’Isère will be booked in your name. Your chauffeur on hand once more to drive you there – and return you safely home too.
This is a proper escape from the everyday, a truly stylish and luxurious ski holiday and adventure in the Alps not to be forgotten.
